Brian Erden founded ERDEN in 2016 to conceptualize, design and weave pieces from a technical viewpoint, as opposed to a purely graphic one. As a life student of textiles and fiber, he focuses on how and with what material a piece is constructed; the realized graphic is either incidental or demonstrative. Traveling extensively and working with premier fiber producers from Peru, South Africa, Italy, Australia, and Mongolia, Brian’s focus is sourcing the finest fibers graded for couture textiles, and re-appropriating them for rug use. From spinning yarn on a drill press to embedding hand-worked bronze and brass elements into soft pile, experimentation, innovation, and building bridges between crafts is his raison d’etre. He lives in Chicago and Nepal.
